This has already been a productive morning. It's been decided by those riding the bus to Bloomington-Normal that art doesn't really happen at 6am, excepting cases where it was continued from the night before.
Tony Sanfilippo and Kristie Willis greeted us with drums and dance, respectively, to start the morning. I really wish I'd had brought my djembe now to jam with Tony. Ah well.
We're being greeted with the typical roll call of all the reasons we should be excited about Bloomington-Normal as a great town and an arts town by Douglas C. Johnson of the McLean County Arts Center. Of special note that is dear to my own heart, the presence of Sam Shepard at one time or another in its jail.
Mayor Stockton points out that Bloomington-Normal is a huge technological community and needs the arts as a counter-balance to the tech sector, making it high on the list of top communities in the nation. I'm a fan of that balance.
Stay tuned for more from the speakers throughout the day, starting with Bruce Mau who will be starting at 10:45am. You can check it out on the live feed.
